FOR VISITORS AND MEMBERSHIP APPLICANTS

Gymea Combined Probus Club Incorporation is an organisation which comes under the umbrella organisation Probus South Pacific Limited.

Mission Statement

Probus South Pacific Limited is dedicated to promoting the development of friendship, fellowship and the advancement of intellectual interests for active retirees through Probus clubs in the South Pacific area.

1. Aims and Objectives

The purpose of the Gymea Combined Probus Club is for the development of companionship and friendship through social interaction. It is non-political, non-sectarian and is not a fund raising body.

2. Membership

Maximum membership is 130 members. It is a combined club and efforts are made to keep a reasonable balance between gender numbers. Even numbers of each gender is ideal, however in practice it is 30% to 70%, the ladies being in the majority.

Although Sutherland Shire residents form the majority of the membership, residents from adjoining shires will be considered provided they can attend the minimum of 50% of our twelve monthly meetings, a rule which applies to all members.

(Note: This rule is subject to leave of absence in cases of sickness and other reasonable grounds, provided an apology is tendered, preferably before the morning of the meeting, otherwise an absence is recorded).

When membership is at maximum number and a person makes an Application for Membership, he/she will be placed on a waiting list, provided they have conformed to Attendance Rules 3(b) and (c) as outlined below.

When a vacancy occurs applicants will be inducted in application date order, giving preference, where possible, to the lesser numbers of members of one gender, having regard to the maximum membership number.

3. Attendance

(a) Name badges are worn by members at meetings and activities. Visitors/applicants awaiting membership will be issued with a temporary name tag. Visitors attending for the first time will be introduced to members who will look after them during the meeting. Committee members can be identified by a red spot worn on their name badge.

(b) A visitor desiring membership should attend a minimum of three general meetings during a five month period, before application is made, to enable a referee to sign the nomination form with some knowledge of the visitor and his/her genuine desire to become an active member.

(c) Failure of a nominee to attend regularly would indicate a future lack of interest in the Club or a conflict of interest with other activities. Non-attendance for 6 consecutive months will cancel nomination for membership.

4. Activities

Visitors are most welcome to attend meetings and participate in all activities. Participation is encouraged because it facilitates visitors and members getting to know each other. Some activities are of little or no cost (e.g. $2.50 days out). There is a newsletter, The Probus Times, containing details of all the Club's current activities as well as other information, which is sent out each month by email or post.

The difference between Visitor and Full Member is that Visitors cannot vote and Full Members have priority on booked tours and outings.

5. Subscriptions

Members: - $90 in April, or $50 in April and $40 in July.

Members joining during the year will be charged on a pro rata rate.

For new members there is a joining fee of $10 to cover a name badge.
